Join us in celebrating Dean Lawrence Edward Carter, Sr. and the incredible legacy he leaves at 91. For nearly five decades, Dean Carter has given his wisdom, faith, and heart to this institution, shaping generations of Morehouse Men and helping define the spirit of the College through his leadership of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel.
We warmly invite alumni, students, colleagues, and friends to come together in gratitude and celebration as we honor his years of service. This moment is about more than retirement. It is a chance to reflect on a life of purpose, impact, and care for others. We hope you will join us in recognizing and thanking Dean Carter for all he has given to the Morehouse community.
The world’s most prominent religious memorial to Morehouse alumnus Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the King Chapel is home base for spiritual servants, scholars, and thought leaders who are furthering the work of peace and justice in the tradition of Dr. King, Howard Thurman, Benjamin Elijah Mays, and others who have for decades used the Gospel to manifest Christ’s teachings in the contemporary world.
Through transformative, moral cosmopolitan programs, the chapel serves as a center for the perpetuation of the evolutionary values of cosmopolitan spiritual ethics, nonviolence, service, and harmony in everyday life. Inspired by the possibility of the Beloved World Economic Community as the ethical meaning of the Presence of God, the Chapel embraces those who seek to make King’s dream real as nonviolent creators of a sustainable world in which all people embody their spiritual magnificence by living with a commitment to unconditional love, responsibility, and justice.
